Marni Fall 2014 Ready-to-Wear

Utterly in awe of this collection by Consuelo Castiglioni for Marni- the exaggerated off-the-body silhouettes, cascading ruffles and peplums, almost cocoon like layers of Neoprene and Fur. This radical collection compiled a number contrasting factors: intense artisan-ship in the bold colours and prints versus the industrial style zips and hardware and metallic accents. The incursions of elegant fur versus the 'sport-luxe' use of Neoprene throughout.

The series of layered looks in this collection caught my eye especially the capacious coats, wide leg trousers, voluminous long skirts along side sweaters underneath structured bustiers. The abstract geometric cut of the garments was fixed close to the body, defining the waist using belts and drawstrings both controlling and accentuating the volume of the garments. The use of colour is unapologetically outrageous the eruption of multi-coloured fur and feathers is truly breathtaking.

With all eyes fixated on the garments the accessories were kept relatively minimal and discreet sticking to simple cuffs and double band rings, and a simple selection of bags. It would be almost criminal not to mention the footwear featured in this collection the gold metal bars and silver toe cap accents have won me over.
